Dec. 18th, 2018 12:33 amI'm mostly recovered from my bout with pneumonia. So this week is going to be what last week should have been--relaxing, transcriptions (for moneyz), job hunting, crafting, and clean up.
I'm actually motoring along pretty well with the Christmas presents. I have all the mug rugs fully quilted and I have started in on the binding for some of them. I only have grey and red small binding so I need to pick up two more bright colors tomorrow to edge everything. I'll take pictures before everything gets mailed out. I'll also be sending out holiday cards this week and I'm most excited about that--I really, really love cards. And mail.
I'm doing a gift exchange and the main part of the present is about 1/3 done--I'm knitting a dalek hat (she's a huge Doctor Who fan) and then will do a small care package of various gifts so she gets an assortment. She's also getting a mug rug--I did an experimental one I ended up loving (starry sky and galaxy fabrics) so she'll get a "cozy" theme to her box with the hat, mug rug, a custom hot chocolate blend, etc. Maybe some chainmaille jewelry? Definitely a scalemail flower at least.
And with all this stash busting I've been toying (AGAIN) with the idea of opening an online store to sell my extra stuff. Like, I really want to quilt more but how many lap quilts and mug rugs do I really need? I'm going to start making more baby quilts to donate to a local women's and children's hospital (every NICU baby gets a handmade blanket which I just discovered so heck yeah). But I have some prints that aren't kid-friendly and I like to make a variety of things. I also have so much chainmaille stuff just...sitting there. And jewelry stuff, good lords.
I've done some looking and Square actually offers free hosting for storefronts and they make their money off all transactions (every transaction goes through them). It's not a perfect solution but with Etsy going off its rocker it's currently the front runner.
I'm not looking to pay any bills with this--I'm looking to a) empty out my stashes and b) be able to make a bit of money back from my crafting obsession, lol. Who knows. If I even sold one thing a month I'd consider it a success, tbh. I know people want and like my stuff--I get people requesting commissions, etc, frequently enough that's not really the issue. But the market is saturated and I'm not great at self-promotion so that'll be rough. Meh. We'll see. I'm also REALLY bad at photography so uh. This will be a great side project for 2019.
