I have played the jigsaw game before with scraps of good stuff. Best of luck, and measure twice. Worst case scenario, throw in a coordinating fabric and pretend it's on purpose. I ran out of orange squares for a drawstring bag and tossed in some turquoise, and it turned out great.

I've hand quilted before, but I think overall I prefer machine quilting. I totally get where you're coming from, finishing the binding by hand. It looks so much better with that blindstitch. Do you miter corners?
